Growth in Home Care Services Needed in NJ/ U.S
The demand for healthcare professionals has been on the rise over the past few years in New Jersey and the rest of the U.S. too. In fact, healthcare is the only sector where there has been growth in the employment even in the worst of economic conditions. The healthcare industry is the only one that has actually added new jobs in the recent past.
In 2013 alone, over 20,000 new positions have been added. It is estimated that this kind of growth will continue even in this year and the coming years.
Top healthcare Jobs
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, there are five healthcare jobs that have a strong growth potential, both professionally and economically:
- Registered Nurses
- CNA and CHHA
- Home Health Aides - the demand for this profession will increase with the rise in the number of baby boomers, who are demanding care away from institutional settings.
- Physical Therapist Assistants
- EMTs or Emergency Medical Technicians and Paramedics
- Healthcare Administrators
Healthcare Attracting Male Healthcare Professionals
There have always been more women in the healthcare sector when compared to the number of men. But according to a recent study, more and more men are getting interested in healthcare professions, especially those roles that have been traditionally donned by women. More and more men are choosing to be registered nurses, nurse practitioners, phlebotomists and medical receptionists.
A bright outlook for NJ healthcare sector
The healthcare sector in NJ has contributed around 30 billion to the overall GDP of the state early in 2010. Also, it is only the healthcare sector in New Jersey that has been able to add new jobs every year, in spite of the economic downturns, during the period ranging 1990 to 2011. The Bureau of Labor Statistics has estimated that around 62,000 jobs will be created between 2010 and 2020, with an increase of 1.3 percent every year. According to the statistics by the State of New Jersey, The healthcare sector paid a whopping $219 billion in wages only during 2011. That is around 12.2 percent of all the wages paid in New Jersey during that year.
A diverse healthcare cluster
New Jersey has over 21,000 health care establishments including hospitals, diagnostic centers, clinics and more. These establishments have over 426, 200 people employed in various roles ranging from technicians, nursing assistants to specialist doctors and surgeons.
