Staying Healthy in Learning and Working Environments

Many learning and working environments are where most illnesses are spread.

There are some precautions that should always be taken. These basic steps are beneficial to a strong immune system, but are often overlooked. Avoiding illness can be helped simply by taking care of yourself. Eating healthy foods, exercise daily, and having a good sleep cycle are small ways to greatly improve health. Packing a lunch can help you keep a balanced diet. Another important, but simple step to reducing chances of getting ill is by staying up to date on immunizations. Many working and learning environments require immunizations, but if they don't it is still important to stay up to date on the flu shots and other vaccinations. It is also important to practice stress reduction techniques as it can affect your health as well. One way to reduce stress is laughter.

When one is working in a healthcare field or living in colleges, severe health risks are everywhere and some extra precautions are necessary. If you know there is a specific illness that is spreading, research what it is and know how it spreads. If you do get sick, do not go into work because it will only spread the disease more. It is also important to shower after long exposure to illnesses. Keep hand sanitizer with you wherever you go. Remember not to share items, even pens can transfer enough germs to get you sick. Sanitize common area surfaces to reduce the risk. It is important not to touch your face or others. Avoid close contact, which includes shaking hands. Lastly, if you have long hair, keep it tied back.
