People are Living Longer than Ever! But What does that Really Mean?

People are Living Longer than Ever!

But What does that Really Mean?

Nowadays people are living longer than ever! With the advances in medicine, declining smoking rates and a new understanding of healthy living, this comes as no surprise. However, even with new technology and medical discoveries older people are still greatly dependent.

Why is that?
Living longer doesn't necessarily mean living healthier. With increased age comes an increased likely hood of dementia, organ failure and weakened bones.  According to a 2002 study, 88% of people 65 years or older have at least one chronic condition, with a quarter of these having four or more conditions.

What about those Medical Advances?
Medical care can only go so far. It's not so much a cure as it is a crutch. Medicine helps with health conditions but it can't cure aging. What we end up with is people who can stand up but aren't able to walk on their own. The best solution is to hire home health aides.

What is a Home Health Aide?
A home health aide is a trained care giver that comes to the residence's home as often as needed to assist them with everyday tasks. These can include cleaning, bathing and assisting with medical needs.

What about a Senior Citizen Home?
Senior citizen homes can be great but it's not the same as living in your own home. These facilities can be very expensive and they may not be given the individual the care and attention that they really need. Most elders would prefer to grow old in a place they're comfortable in.

What about the Cost?"According to the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission (MedPAC), Medicare enrollment is projected to increase by more than 50% over the next 15 years from 54 million beneficiaries today to more than 80 million in 2030."

It actually costs less to have a care taker per hour than it does to live in a nursing home. The average health aide earns about $11 per hour. Many different insurance companies help cover the cost.

What are the Benefits to having a Home Health Aide?
Home Health Aides have advanced state-approved training and licensing which makes them capable of recognizing symptoms or medical problems with their patients.

The Aides are completely focused on your well-being. They aren't running around trying to do fifty things at once. You get their complete undivided attention.

Home Aides do a wide range of tasks. They can clean around the house, run errands, cook meals, provide company and so much more. It's much better to have help on a regular basis than rely on a family member who can only help when they have the time.

Staying at home allows you to keep your independence. You're able to stay close to your family. You have complete control over your surroundings and daily routine.
