  3 Reasons Medical Billing and Coding is a Career Choice




The Health Care industry work force is said to increase by 20% in the next ten years. The baby boomer generation and the Affordable Care Act are the primary reasons for the demand. As a whole, the work force will see employment rise according to the Labor Statistics and specific occupations like nurses, medication aides, home health aides,  Phlebotomist Technicians will significantly rise with the demand.  Phlebotomy Technicians alone will see an increase by 25% by 2022.



All Health Care positions are opening for career seekers including professions that are involved less with patients and more behind the scenes such as Medical Billing and Coding Specialists.   Medical Billing and Coding Specialists are responsible for processing health care procedures, treatments, and medication expenditures. The Medical Billing Specialists submit the necessary documents to insurance companies for reimbursement money.  



These are three reasons to make Medical Billing and Coding a possible career choice.

1. Work at Home

One out of three health care providers allow their Medical Billing and Coding specialists to work at home.  Since most of the work that Medical Billing and Coding Specialists are done electronically, duties do not have to be done at a specific job site.

2. It Pays Well

The median salary of a Medical Billing and Coding Specialist is $35,000 a year and according to glass door there are Specialists that can earn a salary of $70,000 depending on their experience and the health care provider they are working for. 

3. On Demand

The technological dependence in the United States continues to change and grow for businesses.  In most health care facilities, data is stored electronically.   Hospitals, clinics,  and laboratories will have a need for Medical Billing and Coding specialists to keep their records up to date.
